Who Can Benefit from Browser Proxies Proxies?

Automation engineers, QA testing teams, headless browser operators, and web scraping developers depend on browser proxies. Roundproxies delivers infrastructure optimized for Puppeteer, Playwright, Selenium, and other browser automation frameworks—essential for running distributed testing suites, automated data extraction pipelines, and parallel browser instances without detection.

Why Premium Browser Proxies Proxies?

Browser automation scripts fail catastrophically with free proxies due to inconsistent connections that break session state, SSL errors that halt headless operations, and IP bans that invalidate hours of scripted workflows. Roundproxies provides stable, automation-friendly proxies with proper WebSocket support and persistent sessions critical for multi-step browser scripts and long-running automation tasks.

Lightning-Fast Network Performance

Optimized specifically for browser automation frameworks, our proxy network delivers low-latency connections that minimize page load times and script execution delays. Support for concurrent browser instances enables parallel testing and scraping operations at scale. WebSocket compatibility ensures modern web applications function correctly, while connection pooling reduces overhead in rapid page navigation scenarios.

Choose the Right Proxy Type

Residential proxies prove essential when browser scripts must appear as genuine human users to bypass sophisticated bot detection systems. Datacenter proxies excel for internal testing, development environments, and scenarios where speed outweighs stealth requirements. Our infrastructure supports sticky sessions critical for multi-page automation workflows while offering rotation for distributed scraping operations across thousands of browser instances.

Which proxies work for browser automation

Headless browsers get blocked for two separate reasons, and a proxy fixes only one of them. The address is scored by every target; the browser fingerprint is scored by the harder ones. Puppeteer, Playwright and Selenium users who buy residential addresses and keep a default headless fingerprint get blocked and blame the proxy. This page is about which address type each class of target needs, and how to assign it per browser context without leaking.

Datacenter

Unprotected targets

Fast and cheap for sites with no bot management — internal tools, most small sites, many APIs. Blocked at the edge by anything running an enterprise bot manager, whatever the fingerprint.

Rotating residential

Protected targets, per context

A fresh household address per browser context for scraping sites that score the address. Pair it with a realistic fingerprint or the address is wasted.

ISP (static residential)

Persistent profiles

A fixed consumer address for a browser profile that logs in and stays logged in — account testing, monitoring behind auth, anything with a session that must survive.

Sticky residential

Multi-page flows

One address held across a checkout, a form, or a paginated crawl where a change of address mid-flow breaks the session.

4G / 5G mobile

Mobile-app emulation

For automation that emulates a mobile app or tests mobile-specific behaviour. Expensive for general crawling.

Match the address type to the target's defence, then match the fingerprint to the address. One without the other fails.

Where browser automation gets caught

Address scoring, fingerprint scoring, and leaks between the two.

Address scoring

Targets with bot management score the address's ASN, history and rate before rendering anything. This is the part a proxy fixes: the right type for the target, rotated or held according to the flow.

Proxy setup: Datacenter for unprotected targets, rotating residential for protected ones, ISP or sticky for flows that need one address.

Fingerprint scoring

The harder targets score the browser itself: headless markers, missing plugins, canvas and WebGL consistency, timezone versus address. A residential address with a headless fingerprint is caught as surely as a datacenter one.

Proxy setup: A fingerprint consistent with the address — timezone, locale and language matching the address's country — from a stealth configuration or a real browser profile.

Leaks

WebRTC, DNS resolution outside the proxy, and requests from workers or extensions that bypass the context's proxy all expose the real address.

Proxy setup: Disable WebRTC or force it through the proxy, resolve DNS through the proxy, and verify from a leak-test page before every run.

Setting up browser proxies

  1. Assign the proxy per browser context, not per process

Playwright and Puppeteer support a proxy per context. One context per address keeps sessions and cookies isolated with their address.

  2. Use HTTP proxies with authentication in Chromium

Chromium does not support SOCKS5 with a username and password. Use our HTTP endpoints with credentials, or whitelist your machine's address and use SOCKS5 unauthenticated.

  3. Match timezone and locale to the address

Set the context's timezone, locale and Accept-Language to the address's country. A German address with a Pacific timezone is a fingerprint mismatch.

  4. Block what you do not need

Residential traffic is billed by volume. Block images, fonts and media in contexts that only need the DOM, and residential costs drop by most of the page weight.

  5. Test for leaks before scale

Load a leak-test page in a proxied context and confirm the visible address, the WebRTC address and the DNS resolver are all the proxy's.

  6. Hold or rotate by flow, not by habit

A paginated crawl or a checkout holds one address; independent page fetches rotate. Decide per job.

How many browser proxies do you need?

Sized on concurrent contexts for static addresses, on page weight times pages for residential traffic.

A handful of logged-in monitors

1 ISP per profile

One fixed address per persistent profile. The trial covers a few.

Crawling unprotected sites, 20 contexts

20 datacenter IPs

One per concurrent context; cheap and fast.

Scraping protected sites

Rotating pool by GB

Size on pages times average page weight after blocking assets.

Checkout or form flows

Sticky residential per flow

One held session per concurrent flow.

What gets browser automation blocked

  • A residential address under a default headless fingerprint.

  • Timezone and locale that contradict the address's country.

  • WebRTC or DNS leaking the real address.

  • SOCKS5 with credentials in Chromium, which silently fails.

  • Loading images and video over residential traffic that only needs the DOM.

  • Rotating the address in the middle of a multi-page flow.

tbh, I had a very good run with roundproxies. the support is top tier and the quality of the proxies ahve been premium since day one. Have used their ISP and Residential proxies and love the granuliar targeting I can do. I would recommend roundproxies.

The proxy quality and success rate is what stands out most. The IPs are clean, connections are fast, and I rarely hit blocks even on tougher targets. The dashboard is dead simple, I was up and running in minutes, and whenever I had a setup question, support answered within minutes and actually knew what they were talking about. For the price, especially the datacenter proxies with unlimited bandwidth, the value is hard to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I still blocked with residential proxies in Puppeteer?

Because the address is only half of what protected targets score. The browser's fingerprint — headless markers, missing plugins, canvas and WebGL consistency, a timezone that contradicts the address — is the other half. A residential address under a default headless fingerprint is caught as surely as a datacenter one.

Does Chromium support SOCKS5 proxies with a password?

No. Chromium does not support SOCKS5 with a username and password, and it fails silently. Use our HTTP endpoints with credentials, which Chromium handles through the proxy authentication callback, or whitelist your machine's address with us and use SOCKS5 without credentials. Either way, confirm with a leak test that the context is actually routing through the proxy.

How do I assign a different proxy per browser session?

Per browser context, not per process. Playwright and Puppeteer support a proxy per context, so one context per address keeps sessions and cookies isolated with their address. Set the context's timezone, locale and Accept-Language to the address's country at the same time.

How do I stop residential traffic costs from running away?

Block what the job does not need. Residential traffic is billed by volume, and a page's images, fonts and media are most of its weight and none of its value for DOM extraction. Block those resource types in contexts that only need the document, and costs drop by most of the page weight.

How do I check a proxied browser is not leaking my real address?

Load a leak-test page in a proxied context before every run and confirm the visible address, the WebRTC address and the DNS resolver are all the proxy's. WebRTC, local DNS resolution and requests from workers or extensions that bypass the context's proxy are the usual leaks.
